A lot of camera for the price., December 30, 2010 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Casio EXILIM 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera - Silver (Electronics) Very good picture quality outdoors and indoors. Flash throws plenty of light. Colors especially outdoors are very natural. Images appear clear and sharp. This camera has a very wide angle lens with 10X optical zoom. Pictures are sharp through entire wide to telephoto zoom range with good edge to edge sharpness. The video quality is good, but you must first frame your subject before you shoot video as there is no optical zoom in video. I was aware of this before the purchase but when I was recently at a music recital it would have been nice to be able to zoom in and out. I think this camera would be considered a compact rather than an ultra compact, but it is still small enough to fit in most pockets.

Easy to use, excellent results, small size, 10x zoom, low price. What's not to like? Even Consumer Reports goes with this camera. This is an amateur camera for someone who wants great results without having to fool around with all sorts of buttons and controls.

The Jury is Still Out, June 14, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Casio EXILIM 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera - Silver (Electronics) I have had (and still have) good experience with an earlier Exilim. My main reason for buying this was the relatively high optical zoom (10x)for a pocket camera. Having used it on one major trip, and taken about 1000 pictures with it, I am not yet sure that I have made a good purchase.
One thing which I did not think about when buying it, and which is a major disadvantage, is the absence of a view-finder. In bright sunlight, this essentially means pointing the camera and hoping for the best.
The other thing - which may prove to be just a matter of time and experience with the camera - is that the default "Best Picture" setting is automatic. All the many options for specific settings(portrait, landscape, etc) are available, but the camera does not retain one of these settings, when it is switched off; it reverts to automatic. This means that in repeated sessions where you want the same specific setting, you have to keep remembering to reset it... Read more
